Bryan Heslop is the founder of Bryan James Search.
The practice is shaped by a belief that search should be calm, transparent, and guided by intention. That belief comes from years spent working closely with people and organisations, and from seeing how the quality of decisions improves when the work is approached with clarity and care.
Why I founded the practice
I founded the practice to create a way of working that reflects the principles I value: clarity in communication, a measured approach, and a respect for the people involved. Search carries weight for organisations and individuals, and I wanted to build a practice that treats that weight seriously - one that supports decisions that stand up over time.
My thinking about search has been shaped by work that has always sat close to people, decisions, and organisational judgement - across HR, in-house recruitment, executive search, and behavioural assessment. Those experiences underpin the way the practice works today.
Much of my career has been spent within Financial Services, including more than twenty years with Prudential. That background gives me a clear understanding of the expectations, pressures, and long-term considerations that shape hiring in the sector - and it is why the practice focuses its work here.
How my experience shapes the practice
The practice reflects the approach I have carried throughout my career. My background allows me to move between the needs of organisations and the perspectives of individuals with ease, and to support decisions with judgement and care.
We only work on a small number of engagements at any one time. That allows me to be closely involved in every assignment, maintain the quality of the work, and ensure that the experience feels consistent for everyone involved.
A commitment to doing the work well
My aim is simple: to run a practice that brings clarity, consistency, and good judgement to search. I care deeply about the work, the people involved, and the decisions being made. The practice is an expression of that commitment - and of the belief that search, when done well, can be a calm, respectful, and genuinely useful experience for organisations and individuals alike.
